Hampstead Curtain And Blind Questions
Which parts of Hampstead do you cover?
We cover Hampstead and NW3, including Belsize Park and the streets around the Heath. Our workroom is in Acton, a short drive away, so coming back to check a detail or adjust a fitting is straightforward.
Do you measure and fit the curtains yourselves?
Yes. We measure your windows ourselves, every piece is made by hand in our Acton workroom, and we come back to fit it. Measuring, making and fitting are itemised separately on your estimate so you can see what each part covers.
What happens at the first consultation?
We come to you, look at the windows together and talk through what the room needs to do. We bring fabrics, trimmings and colour combinations to see against your own light, which is where a fabric really shows what it will do. You do not need to have decided anything before we visit.
Which curtains suit Victorian and Edwardian windows in Hampstead?
Much of Hampstead was built in those two periods, and the windows have habits: tall sashes, deep bays, and reveals that are rarely as square as they look. Curtains hung from a covered lath sit well on a tall sash and hold the proportions of the room. In a bay we treat each section on its own rather than flattening it behind one wide blind.
Curtains or blinds for a Hampstead sash window?
A Roman blind sits neatly in the reveal of a sash window and keeps the frame on show. Where a bedroom faces the street, a blackout Roman blind layered behind curtains is the usual answer. Where the window frames a view towards the Heath we keep the dressing light, so the view stays the point.
Have you worked on a house in Hampstead before?
Yes. One of our Hampstead projects is the work discussed in our entry on The List, the House and Garden directory of designers and makers. There are client stories from Hampstead further down this page.
